Agarwood Harvesting Service

About Agarwood Harvesting Service

Artificial inoculation: Since only a small percentage of trees naturally produce the resin, technicians inject a fungal spore solution into the tree trunk to induce the agarwood formation process.
Patented formulas: Many companies use proprietary, scientifically developed formulas to maximize the quality and quantity of the resin produced.
Pre-harvest monitoring: The service monitors the trees for years after inoculation to track the resin's development and determine the optimal harvest time.
2. Sustainable harvesting
The harvesting service employs responsible methods to protect the environment and ensure the long-term viability of the plantation.
Careful selection: Experts visually inspect the trees for signs of resin production, such as dark streaks, and may use techniques like coring to confirm the presence and quality of the agarwood.
Selective harvesting: Instead of clear-felling, the service extracts only the resin-infected parts of the tree, such as specific branches. The rest of the tree is left intact to regenerate.
Tree regeneration: Some methods encourage new growth from the stump after harvesting, allowing the tree to be harvested multiple times throughout its life.
3. Wood processing and grading
After harvesting, the service processes the raw material into usable products.
Primary processing: The infected heartwood is separated from the uninfected sapwood, and the raw material is cut into pieces.
Quality grading: Processed wood is sorted and graded based on its resin density and fragrance. Higher-density wood, which sinks in water, is considered the highest quality.
Distillation: For oud oil, the service distills the resinous wood using techniques like steam or hydrodistillation to extract the pure oil.
Chip and powder production: Lower-grade resinous wood can be turned into chips or powder for incense and other products.
4. Market and sales support
Some integrated services also help with the commercial side of the business.
Buy-back arrangements: Service providers may offer contract farming agreements that include a commitment to purchase the harvested agarwood from the farmer at market price.
Global distribution: Companies with extensive market connections help distribute the final products, such as chips, oil, and powder, to domestic and international markets.
